Pi Sigma Alpha
The USCGA hosts the Sigma Kappa Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, which is the National Political Science Honor Society. Chartered in 1997, the Academy’s Sigma Kappa Chapter annually inducts graduating first class Government major cadets who have achieved significant standing in their major, and demonstrated the highest levels of leadership and professional conduct.

The purpose of the organization is to recognize excellence in academic achievement by undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of political science, government, international and public affairs; to stimulate scholarship and interest in political science; to promote worthwhile curricular and extracurricular activities related to political science; to promote civil dialog; and to engage in any other activities that further these purposes.

Cadets enrolled at The United States Coast Guard Academy are eligible for membership if they meet the following requirements:
  1. Completion of at least 15 credits of work in political science including at least three upper-division courses;
  2. An average grade of B in all courses in political science;
  3. Maintenance of general scholarship sufficient to place the student in the top one-third of his or her class; and
  4. Recognition by faculty consensus of possessing leadership and professional skills appropriate to PSA expectations.
