ABOUT CECE

Hello! My name is Cecelia Hosley, but everyone calls me Cece. I am from Chester, Connecticut, a tiny town not far from the Academy located on the Connecticut River. I am a Marine and Environmental Sciences major, and I play varsity lacrosse here at the Academy. I have lived in Connecticut all my life and spent almost every summer on the island of Martha’s Vineyard off of Cape Cod, Massachusetts! At home, I live with my mom, dad, two younger sisters, and my two dogs.

Having spent so much time at the beach, I fell in love with the ocean from a very early age. In fact, I have dreamed of being a marine biologist ever since I can remember, so when I was given the opportunity to attend a high school specific to marine science, I jumped at the opportunity. I attended the Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut where I studied everything from physical oceanography to aquaculture (growing fish!). As a senior in high school, I realized that the Coast Guard Academy was the perfect fit. I could pursue my dreams of studying marine science, while serving the greatest country in the world.

Here at the Academy, I am thoroughly enjoying my major-specific classes and the boating field trips that go along with them, as well as my directed study, which is focused on marine mammals. The Academy is truly a unique place; every day is a challenge and a reward all at the same time. I have met some of the greatest people in the world, had some of the hardest days of my life, and some of the best. I have come to appreciate the little things in life and to understand why we do what we do. While the days can seem to last forever, there will be nothing more rewarding than crossing that stage to become a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard. Plus, what could be better than living with a huge group of your best friends and getting to wear matching outfits every day? Go Books, Go Bears, and Go Coast Guard!
