ABOUT SYDNEY

Life as a cadet sure ain’t easy, but man, I’m loving every second of it.

4/c Sydney Johnson here, nice to meet you. Originally from the Bronx, New York, but now I reside in good ol’ Suffolk, Virginia. I’m a runner, but a musician at heart (trumpet and trombone, of course) and I take interest in some of the finer things in life: art, cuisine, playing with dogs and such.

It wasn’t until attending AIM, the one-week Academy program that I became aware of what the Coast Guard had to offer but in that one week’s time, my decision was set – Coast Guard for’evr. My path toward the Academy would then be forged by the Coast Guard Academy’s Scholars program. I spent a year at Marion Military Institute in order to strengthen my academics and, in the process, I have made some lifelong friends to share the journey with.

Fast forward, and here I am at the Academy, living the sleepless life of a cadet. I’m currently involved in various clubs: Genesis Council, Compañeros, as well as the International Council, and anxiously waiting the start of track and field season. Between it all, the academics, sports, clubs, and the military rigors of the Academy, I’d say I’m thankful and blessed to be given such a remarkable opportunity.

If you ever want to cook, need a dog to be played with, or maybe even have a question about Academy life, shoot me an email at Sydney.S.Johnson@uscga.edu. Until then, 4/c Johnson shoving off.
